What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is an FDA-approved method for reducing hair growth in the long term. It uses laser light to destroy the hair follicle. While you may need occasional touch-ups, you can otherwise kiss unwanted hair goodbye.
Laser hair removal can be done on almost any body part. Whether its your face, legs, or anywhere else on your body, you wont have to deal with daily shaving or waxing again.
Does it hurt?
Maybe. Some say its a similar discomfort to a wax but its different for everyone—some find it stings & some are totally unbothered by it. It can also depend on the areas being treated, legs, underarms, bikini area, chest and face all have different sensitivities. Our licensed technicians know to assess your pain tolerance & plan accordingly with multiple ways to make the treatment as comfortable as possible for you. We use a cool air technology as well as a cooling gel that helps to cool your skin during the treatment.
What laser do we use?
Laser Bar and Spa uses Cynosure branded lasers such as Cynosure Elite Plus, Cynosure IQ and the Cynosure Apogee, which is safe and effective for all skin types thanks to its dual wavelengths: the Nd:YAG and the Alexandrite. We can treat all skin types. Unfortunately, laser doesn’t work on grey, white, blonde or red hair.
How many treatments will I need?
It depends on the hair density and the location of the area being treated. Because only hair follicles in the active growth stage can be successfully targeted during a laser hair removal treatment, you will need multiple sessions. On average, we recommend 6 to 12 treatments, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. In some cases more sessions are needed to achieve the desired results. For example; Facial hair always needs more sessions and may need to be scheduled more frequently. Treatment time range from only a few minutes to as long as an hour.
Are your Technicians Licensed?
All of our technicians hold valid NYS Esthetics and Laser Licenses. Additionally, they receive intense in house training as well as attend advanced classes to stay abreast on all treatments.
What do I need to do to prep for my appointment?
Shave all areas to be treated with a razor 1-24 hours in advance of your appointment. The closer the shave the better. Please do not apply lotion, oils, deodorant, makeup (if possible), or any other topical treatments to the area.
No waxing, plucking, self-tanners, sun exposure, retinol creams, facials, chemical peels, antibiotics or any photosensitive medications 2 weeks prior to your treatment. No Accutane 6 months prior to treatment.
What happens if I am pregnant?
Unfortunately, we can not treat you if you are pregnant but we can put your package on hold until you are ready to restart treatments. Please check with your doctor before restarting treatment.
Can I tan while being treated?
No. For the laser treatment to be safe and effective you must minimize sun exposure for 4 weeks before your treatment. This means wearing SPF sunscreen on areas that will be exposed to the sun and limiting exposure. For the safest and most effective treatment, we need your skin as close to your normal skin color as possible.
What is that treatment like?
A laser hair removal treatment feels like a rubber band snapping at your skin with a little bit of heat. It can last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Before the treatment, your esthetician will ask you a few important medical-related questions, and you’ll prep the area to be treated by removing deodorant, covering tattoos and wiping off any makeup, sunscreen or lotion. Then, you’ll be given protective eye glasses. Once the treatment is done, well give you some soothing cream to the area.
Hairs in the treated area will begin to fall out on their own within the next two weeks. You may continue to shave as needed. Your hair will likely start to grow back in four weeks to six weeks, but after several treatments, that hair will typically be finer and less dense. It is important to stay consistent with each treatment and complete your entire package for the best hair reduction results possible.
What must I do after getting laser hair removal?
After your treatment, you can moisturize the area with a thin layer of aloe or hydrocortisone as needed to help reduce any irritation.
We strongly recommend you avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for a minimum of 2 weeks after your treatment, and always apply sunblock with SPF 50+ to the treated area any time you are outside.
You should avoid hot showers, steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, and exercise/sweating for 24 hours, and avoid swimming for at least three days after your treatment.
When will I see the results after having laser hair removal?
The results vary from person to person. You can expect a 10% to 25% reduction in hair after the first treatment.
For a permanent reduction in hair, most people need 6 to 12 and up of laser treatments. After finishing the6 package of treatments, most people do not see any hair on the treated skin for several months or even years. When the hair regrows, the hair tends to be less, finer and lighter in color.
What are the possible side effects?
The most common side effects are minor and last 1 to 14 days. These side effects include: Swelling, redness, bruising, scabbing. In rare instances blistering, hyper/hypo-pigmentation and scarring can occur.
